The cycle of city life
The cycle of city life
Opposite Bristol Bridge was the much-loved heart of the city that was lost during the Blitz. Post-war developers saw the opportunity to clear out a lot of the old and brought in the new; local opinion was divided. Norwich Union occupied the new office buildings where shops once stood, but now have moved out. The fate of this modern architecture is still under review, perhaps to be demolished. Meanwhile the tower of St Peter's church tower looks on, despite being hit by bombs and almost destroyed, still standing after many more years than its new neighbour.
