Wenlock Edge, Wolverton
Wenlock Edge, Wolverton
The scarp above a wheat field. There is an unusual patch of open downland here, usually the scarp slope is wooded. The Edge is the lower of two parallel ridges made of limestones of varying strengths. The softer mudstones form a landscape similar to chalk downland with the same features. Behind harder rocks form a line of hills which often top 300m, the highest being High Vinnalls near Ludlow (375m, SO4773 : Field, Monstay).
