Weir on the Teign
Weir on the Teign
At SX8088 : Steps Bridge. Stepping stones along the weir dam were the only way to cross the river here before the first bridge was built in 1710 following an accident which caused "the loss of a man and a woman who were taken downstream and drowned together with their horses". The reflected woodland is Bridford Wood which covers the steep slopes south of the river. Woodland north of the river is part of the Meadhaydown Nature Reserve, owned by the National Trust and managed by the Devon Wildlife Trust.
