Godalming station
The main station buildings are on the down platform, and appear to be originally constructed with the local bargate stone.
This is the "new" station on the Portsmouth Direct line which opened in 1859, and was electrified in 1937. The old station, which opened in 1849, was a terminus on the north side of the River Wey at SU974444. The old station continued to be used as a goods yard until the 1960's, but the site has now been re-developed.
Although Godalming claims to be the first place in the world to have a public electricity supply, the new station was lit by gas lights until the 1960's.
