Darsham Station in the Distance
Taken from the Middleton Road bridge that crosses the line between Lowestoft and Ipswich. The grey installation with the aerial is a Global system for mobile communications (GSM-R). It is used for communication between train and railway regulation control centres using microwaves. Its prime purpose is safety on the railways and eliminates signal boxes and manually operated crossings. The Breckland line will be next to get the same treatment.
