Quarry Face, Quarry Moor Nature Reserve, Ripon
With limestone strata from the Permian period, 270 million years ago. The area has been heavily quarried over many generations, with the stone used for building, burning for lime and railway ballast. In 1945, Alderman Spence designated Quarry Moor as a play area for the "Children of Ripon" for all time.
