It's increasingly rare for new pubs to open, but the J D Wetherspoon pub chain is still opening them and doing very well. This new pub opened on the 28th May 2010, after Wetherspoons spent £850,000 redeveloping it. Previously it was the Chicago Rock Café. However the look of the building is rather a giveaway, as this was originally the Danilo Cinema. It was built in 1936-37 to a design by Ernest S. Roberts. Prior to the building of the cinema, there was a hosiery factory on this site.
