Large emerald
Large emerald
This was not THE most colourful visitor to the 2006 Ardingly Vintage Vehicle Show beer tent but it was one of the more unexpected. It is a Large emerald moth, Geometra papionaria. Its caterpillars feed on birch and hazel normally seen in southern England during July and August. The poor thing was too cold to fly, a few minutes perched on top of the TV and it was chocks away!
