L7557 : Lime kiln and quarried rock

taken 18 years ago, 5 km E of Letterfrack, Co Galway, Ireland

Lime kiln and quarried rock
Lime kiln and quarried rock
The extensive crags of striated rock on the lower slopes of Benbaun (Binn Bhan or Maolan) stand next to an obvious slit quarry, and appear partly quarried and partly natural. The paved slope up to the roof of the lime kiln (which has a large circular opening) can be seen in this view. Kylemore Abbey (L7458) and the lower slopes of Doughruagh (Duchruach; L7558) are visible in the distance
