The ruins of St Andrew's church at Little Ringstead
St Andrew's church served the parish of Little Ringstead (also called Ringstead Barrett). Built during the 13th century, it consisted of a single cell that perhaps once was the chancel of a larger church. Presumed to have been abandoned in the second half of the 14th century, the building continued to be used as a chapel up until the 16th century and was later converted into a barn that was abandoned in 1940. There does not appear to be an adjoining churchyard. The village of Little Ringstead was depopulated by the plague in 1349 and by the 18th century only one farm remained. The ruin stands in the middle of a large cultivated field on private farmland. The nearest buildings today are at Downs Farm >
