SO7740 : Stinkhorn in Mayalls Coppice

taken 18 years ago, near to Little Malvern, Worcestershire, England

Stinkhorn in Mayalls Coppice
Stinkhorn in Mayalls Coppice
Mid July. Several stinkhorns (Phallus impudicus) have appeared, but don't exist for long. The erect stinkhorn was black with liquid yesterday. The liquid contains the spores. The smell attracts flies which feed on the liquid and so disperse the spores.
