Improved and un-improved grazings
Improved and un-improved grazings
The impact of man can be clearly seen just here. The fields on the left have been fenced, cleared of stones, limed and re-seeded (sometime in the last 100 years). The dyke has been built with the stones but this is sadly neglected but in places it is still 1500mm high. The hill is still heather with rush, sedge and cotton grass. Bracken is also tending to increase. This time of the year the sheep are free to choose where they graze, but gates and fences enable control.
