SD9057 : Allamere Laithe

taken 12 years ago, near to Bell Busk, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Allamere Laithe
Allamere Laithe
At the foot of Lower Colgath Hill. Laithe is the old Yorkshire word for a barn. English Heritage states that a laithe is "A building combining a cow-house with crop storage space". This ruined barn had more extensive building on the north side. From the same source, a laithe house is a farm worker’s house attached to agricultural buildings. A lot of the laithes I came across were in a state of disrepair.
