SM7526 : Meidr Dwyll
near to St David's, Pembrokeshire/Sir Benfro, Great Britain

Meidr Dwyll
Green lane, running in this view SW to the valley of the Alun and the cathedral close, with the peculiar name of Meidr Dwyll which means something like Deception Lane (dwyll: fraud, hoax, humbug). It is named thus, in Gothic script, on older maps. However an article of the cult of St David in Journal of the Pembrokeshire Historical Society, Vol. 7, 1996-1997, refers to it as "Meidr Dywyll or
Dark Lane, formerly Meidr-y-saint, or Saints' Lane". It was part of the pilgrims' route to St David's from the north.
