SM9936 : Pen y Mynydd - former hillside smallholding, Pembs

Pen y Mynydd - former hillside smallholding, Pembs.
Little upland smallholdings such as this one enjoy fantastic views but must have been tough places to live and to farm with their stony fields, mountain grazing and constant exposure to southwesterly winds. Not surprisingly they were mostly abandoned during the 20th century until rebuilt, like this one, as holiday homes. The surrounding land is still (over)grazed by sheep.
