Footbridge over the Cadnam River, Newbridge
Footbridge over the Cadnam River, Newbridge
Looking east across the Cadnam River from the bank on the edge of Cadnam Common. The river flows from right to left, towards the Paultons Estate. According to Hampshire County Council the concrete footbridge was erected (possibly in 1963-1964) by the County Surveyor. There had been an earlier wooden footbridge, known as "shaky bridge" by some. There is supposed to be a bridleway from the far side of the bridge up to Newbridge Road but the garden gate on the far side is tied shut. The bridleway is marked on the definitive map of Hampshire rights of way, but was disputed in 1994 by the land-owner.
