Former Pennine Way route
Former Pennine Way route
The former route of the Pennine Way went north-west from Black Hill to Saddleworth Moor. To prevent erosion it was re-routed in 1990 along what Wainwright calls "The Wessenden Alternative".

Here it crosses a stream by what the OS amusingly calls a "ford".
