Little Bealings All Saints church
The unusual positioning of the 14th century tower and church looks awkward but it was probably due to the contours of the ground on which the church sits which brought about this configuration. The tower serves as south porch and the bells are rung from here. As we enter the nave, it is bright and welcoming. The poor font has suffered as badly as any I have seen. Attacked with an axe by Dowsing and his thugs, only two of the eight panels are still recognisable. The roofs of the nave and north aisle have been plastered but the nave still has the embattled cornice. The pulpit is Stuart in date. On the wall of the chancel is a memorial to members of the Colvin family: Maria, James, her husband, and John and Edward two of their sons. The first of the Rectors of the parish was Giles Dodingesles in 1296.
