Little Finborough St Mary’s church
There has been very little said about this modest church. H. Munro Cautley comments: ‘There is nothing of interest in this church but the Arms of George III dated 1767, which hang on the tympanic filling above rood-beam.’ That was it! I remember driving up to the church and wondering if I would be able to turn the car round. I could! While I was there, I enjoyed the churchyard’s peace and tranquillity. Restoration took place in 1867/8, when the west end was rebuilt. Above the west end of the nave a bellcote was erected which houses a single bell. I don’t believe there has ever been a tower here. The church is 14th century. The thatch was removed and the roofs were tiled when restoration took place. The nave and chancel floors were also tiled and new benches put in, with a new pulpit to match.
