This is a good example of the old symbolic tombstones to be found in the churchyard. The winged soul at the top of the stone is a symbol of immortality representing the human soul leaving the body at death and ascending to Heaven. Below are symbols of mortality in the form of crossed femur bones, the sexton’s spade and turf cutter, a coffin, a winged hourglass and a skull.
