Former mine building, Settlingstones
Built on the site of an earlier lead mine, Settlingstones was the world's only producer of witherite from 1873 to 1969. Witherite was used in experimental pottery glazes and steel hardening. {Source: SINE Project Link.} Photo taken from the path to Park Dam and Middle House in NY8569.
NY8568 : Winding tower near Settlingstones, Newbrough Looking at the shape of the building I'm pretty sure this held a beam pumping engine. This shows the rear wall with the large door that the cylinder would have gone in through. The beam would have been supported and pivoted on the opposite "bob" wall.
