The Ashby Canal near Dadlington, Leicestershire
Here the canal is approaching Dadlington Wharf Bridge (No 30), which carries Shenton Lane. The wharf to which the bridge name refers is on the right of the image, an "inlet" only just large enough for one narrowboat, though if that wooden walkway were not there, there would probably be room for two.
SP4098 : Ashby Canal near Dadlington
The Ashby canal is a very popular one for boaters because (at present) it has twenty-two miles with no locks to negotiate, and is mainly through rural and attractive countryside. It was opened in 1804, but never reached its intended destination of Ashby-de-la-Zouch.
