See NS6068 : Column from the Doulton Balgray Fountain for a view of the column as a whole.

[In its previous situation, when the column was part of a fountain in Balgray Recreation Ground (an area which was later cleared away to form the Springburn Expressway), the sides of the cubical block that is directly beneath the unicorn had the letters of the cardinal directions N/E/S/W projecting from it, like a weather vane. An old photograph of the fountain shows that the letter "N" projected from the side towards which the unicorn faces; the stump of the rod that held this letter is visible in my photograph.]

Column in Springburn Park

This category B listed column, with an Ionic capital, was once part of a fountain in the now-destroyed Balgray Recreation Ground, but is now a prominent feature of Springburn Park. It is topped by a unicorn whose shield bears a St Andrew's cross. Emblems of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England appear on the lower part of the column.
