Art Deco Flats, Marine Parade West / Pier Street, Lee-on-the-Solent
These flats were part of a 1930s Art Deco building spree in Lee-on-the-Solent. The 1888 pier once stood immediately to the left of the photographer. In 1935 Lee Tower complex, also Art Deco, was built at the pier head with a cinema, ballroom, restaurant, lounge, bar and white tower with clock and a 120ft high observation deck. It was demolished in 1971. The pavilion at pier end had burnt down in 1932 and the whole pier was demolished in 1958 but the town boundary still skirts around the long gone pier on the Get-a-Map.
