EPAL on the chimney stands for East Pool & Agar Ltd. This site and the nearby Mitchell's winding engine house are owned by the National Trust LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) . Work is currently underway refurbishing the pumping engine house. The winding engine house contains a working beam engine which is operated several times each day.
