SK9730 : The Norman manor house at Boothby Pagnell
taken 16 years ago, near to Boothby Pagnell, Lincolnshire, England
The Norman manor house at Boothby Pagnell
A distant shot, and against late afternoon light. No closer approach was possible, as this little building stands in the grounds of Boothby Pagnell Hall, a private residence. In the Lincolnshire volume of 'The Buildings of England' Professor Pevsner takes almost a full page to describe it. He calls it 'the most important small Norman manor house in England'. It was built circa 1200, and the walls are said to be four feet thick in places.
