NS4783 : Old field boundary

3 km from Craighat, Stirling, Great Britain

Old field boundary
Old field boundary
See NS4783 : Old field boundary for the main description of this field system, which consists of a network of low ridges.

The present photograph, taken at a location where part of a ridge has been sheared away, reveals the structure of these boundaries: their remains are simply earthen banks, with no underlying stone. Another picture taken from the same point, but looking in the opposite direction, shows an intact section of the same ridge, covered in bracken: NS4783 : Old field boundary.

The green hill in the distance, right of centre, is NS4385 : The Dumpling. The skyline peak that is behind and just to the left of it is Beinn Eich (NS3094). Just in front of the Dumpling is the corner of some woods; this corresponds to what can be seen at the south-west corner of NS4684 on the map.
East Cameron field system
A network of earthen banks forming an extensive field system associated with the long-disappeared farmstead of East Cameron (see LinkExternal link for details). See LinkExternal link for an annotated satellite view. For outlying parts of the same field system, see LinkExternal link and LinkExternal link
