Iron Age Settlement
This settlement in the centre of the photo is at an altitude of 250 metres on the western slopes of White Meldon hill. It consists of a low earth embankment with some stonework whilst originally there were timber round houses in the enclosed central area. Black Meldon hill with an altitude of 407 metres can be seen in the background across the valley. There are many prehistoric forts and settlements in the area.
