The lighthouse in the distance is the location of the Tidal Observatory which traditionally was the location used by Ordnance Survey as the vertical datum or base marker for Sea Level for all the maps of the UK.

In the middle distance is the barrage of rocks to prevent the ingress of heavy seas.

To the right of the picture are the buildings linking in with the North Wall of Newlyn harbour.
