Former baptism pool, Mwsland
A photograph I have seen shows a mass baptism taking place here in the Afon Gwaun at Mwsland (as the area across the river from Lower Town is known) around 1908. The minister is standing thigh deep in the water immersing a member of the congregation while many others await their turn on the bank. It was February and the worshippers would have had to walk back to the chapel in their wet clothes. (The Baptist chapel has since been demolished.) All that remains to be seen here is this small concrete platform on the bank to enable people to get in and out of the water.
