SN8034 : Coachman's Cautionary
near to Pentre-ty-Gwyn, Carmarthenshire/Sir Gaerfyrddin, Great Britain

Coachman's Cautionary
This pillar was erected as a warning to mail coach drivers about drinking and driving. Also in memory of the Gloucester & Carmarthen mail coach which was driven by Edward Jenkins on the 19th December 1835. He was intoxicated at the time and drove the mail coach on the wrong side, at full speed, when he met a cart and went over the precipice down 121 feet. At the bottom, near the river it hit an ash tree and the coach was smashed into several pieces.
