Battle of Hastings
Battle of Hastings
This is part of the battlefield, 14th October 1066. If you had been a Norman you would have been fighting your way up this slope. The abbey was not there, that was built by William I in the 1070s as thanks for his victory. Nevertheless the Saxon army was waiting at the top of the hill. Today there is a popular battlefield walk with very good headset commentaries and information boards describing the course of the battle.
