A bridge too far
A bridge too far
Or too many. This was a photo I did not expect to be taking. The previous day I had watched the demolition crew laying down rail protection SU6082 : The last shot and fully expected to come back today and find the bridge missing. You can see the white marks where I assume it was being demolished to. I found out a while after I left the previous day when the protection was being laid for demolition to start it all had to be lifted again to allow a ballast train through. This put the work back three hours and to demolish the bridge was cutting it fine so at midnight management pulled the plug rather than over run on the works. Next date will be Easter. I might add that over the Christmas period Reading station was closed while a new bridge was fitted LinkExternal link At Purley they had dug out the trackbed as a preservation order had been placed on the bridge by local residents, and at Redbridge near Oxford they had demolished another bridge. I feel this one had been one too many.
