Hanbury Lock No 1, Worcestershire
On the Droitwich Junction Canal by Hanbury Junction there is a flight of three locks. This image shows part of the top Lock, No 1, looking towards the junction with the Worcester and Birmingham Canal.
This canal is in an advanced stage in restoration, with new and renovated locks, and freshly cut channels. It was abandoned with the Droitwich Barge Canal in 1939, and became derelict. Restoration began in 1973. The barge canal re-opened in 2010, and the narrow canal to Hanbury Junction here is now due to complete the route to the Severn, opening in 2011. It is likely to be an attractive and very popular route.
The boats moored on the right have been there on long-term mooring terms for many years. They may well need to move elsewhere when boats need the mooring space to wait for the flight of locks.
