The Remains of Tuxford Works
The Remains of Tuxford Works
Tuxford was the hub of the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway which was intended to run from Warrington to Sutton on Sea but in the event only managed Chesterfield to Lincoln. At Tuxford was a running depot, a locomotive works and a carriage and wagon works. The locomotive works were closed by the London and North Eastern Railway in 1927. The running depot closed in 1959 but the wagon works lasted for some time longer. The two brick buildings in this picture were part of this enterprise but are now in non-railway use.
