Bronze Age site
Mosaic and information board by The Water Rail Way
Late Bronze Age site
On the opposite bank of the south delph, the Environment Agency funded an archaeological dig involving Time Team from Channel 4 television. The dig took 6 weeks and ended 2 weeks before Christmas 2003.
What was found was a late Bronze Age craft site indicating metalsmiths at work. Amongst the many finds was copper ore and also a mould into which molten metal would have been poured.
The mosaic incorporates local motifs and represents the same interest in craft today
