Class 37 - 37611
While waiting for my delayed train to Norwich I braved the cold to see an old class 37 hauling a DVT (I think) to Norwich Crown Point depot.
Direct Rail services who own and run the locomotive are a successful business (owned by the nuclear decommissioning authority) primarily set up for hauling nuclear flask trains, for example Sizewell A to Sellafield. However they have diversified into many areas of freight and special haulage.
DRS is the only remaining publicly owned rail freight company in the United Kingdom.
The company is popular with heritage traction enthusiasts because they bought many of the old British designs (C37 and C20s mostly), saving them from scrap.
