Cobble Dub below Davybank Wood on the River Lune
In very low water (seen here at 0.36m on the Environment Agency gauge at Killington weir), the first mile of the River Lune's most often paddled section from Crook of Lune to Killington New Bridge, is a bit of a bump and a scrape. It's pool-drop with shingle rapids, and the pools, like this one, always have enough depth, but over the shingle can be very shallow where the rapid is wide. The one just ahead of us, to the left of the island, is a little narrower and even at this level, went without too many of the group getting hung up. It's all worth it further on as the river narrows down through some rocky gorges.
