NY7733 : Upper Teesdale above Cow Green

5 km from Harwood, County Durham, Great Britain

Upper Teesdale above Cow Green
Upper Teesdale above Cow Green
The Tees gathers its water on the eastern slopes of Cross Fell, Greta and Little Dun Fell (all with their tops in the cloud on this bleak Febrary day), and flows over remote bleak moorland of the Moorhouse National Nature Reserve on its way (now regulated by the dam at Cow Green) to the scenic highlights of Cauldron Snout, High and Low Force. Moor House itself, along with a small number of plantations, seemingly close by when seen from the Cow Green to Yad Moss track, belong geographically to Teesdale, but have no practical approach route from this side. Economically, they belong to the Tyne, reached by a long track from Tyne Head to their north.
