Cheapside, St Mary Le Bow Church & One New Change
Major roadworks along Cheapside mean that it can be seen with very little traffic, and this coned-off section gave me the opportunity to step into the road for the picture. This is a recreation of a picture taken in 1894, and published in a book called "The Descriptive Album of London". The 1894 picture can be seen here Link
Very little of that earlier Cheapside remains - the buildings on the right have been replaced by the very new shopping centre One New Change which opened in the autumn of 2010. One building on the left might date back to 1894. The church of St Mary Le Bow is still distinctive.
The little street crossing the pavement on the left is Gutter Lane.
