Dubh Sgeir, Sound of Jura
Paddling past the southern end of Eilean Mor, the tide can flow quite fast through the gaps between the main island and the skerries of Dubh Mor. Here we had caught it at slack water just at the start of the flood tide, before completing our circumnavigation of Eilean Mor. This was a May bank holiday weekend, on which we were blessed with almost perfect weather conditions for my first multi-day sea kayaking trip. The ripples here as the tide turns and starts to pick up were almost the only ones we saw all weekend. The view across the Sound of Jura takes in much of central Jura, including the Paps.
