Sea kayakers' camp fire, Camas Choire Mhuilinn
This was the first night's camp on a three-day paddle round Ardnamurchan Head from Loch Sunart to Kentra Bay. Having had nice weather down the Loch, we faced strengthening winds for the final crossing of more exposed water to the south coast of the Ardnamurchan peninsula a short way east of Kilchoan. The wind dropped again at dusk, making this south-facing beach a pleasant enough place to camp. If it's not too windy, an exposed beach is always useful in that it tends to accumulate driftwood and flotsam which is good for a fire, kept below the high tide mark so that it leaves no permanent mark.
