Easter Beck
Easter Beck is one of the tributaries of Rowton Beck, in the dip in the middle distance, which naturally flows to the River Tees east of Holwick. However, at one time, much of its water was diverted east along the hillside of Crossthwaite Common, finally to descend much nearer to Middleton-in-Teesdale. On the day of this photograph it was mainly being fed by the melting of the previous night's snow, as the snowline crept back higher onto the fells. The snow lies more continuously, though not deep, higher up, as can be seen across Teesdale on Hardberry Hill. In the valley of Easter Beck itself, there is still a small remnant of the much deeper snow that fell and drifted in December.
