Swanage Railway goods shed, Swanage
Swanage Railway goods shed, Swanage, taken 7 years ago
Quite a large stone-built structure, west of Swanage Station, adjacent to the bus station. The London & South Western Railway didn't reach Swanage until 1885, quite late in the great era of railway building. The goods shed - built from local materials - looks as if it may date from those late Victorian times. The Swanage Railway's restoration represents it as it was in the late 1930's - in the colours of the Southern Railway. Many buildings on the Southern Region of British Railways continued in these colours into the 1960's. A few structures on the national system wear the SR bright green to the present day: TQ2550 : Signalbox at Reigate station.

Swanage has an engine-shed, but only a very small one, so the goods shed now serves as the railway's main workshop.
