Ruined shielings near Toscaig
Shielings were the temporary accommodation for cattle herders in the summer pasture, usually only just big enough for one person to sleep in. How they dealt with the midges I don't know! These are now no more than heaps of boulders, and the lifestyle they embody is extinct.
