The couple in the distance were walking towards the steps down to Platforms 1-3. The windows beyond them at the far end are where passengers can now cross a new bridge to the Station Street tram terminus, as shown in Dave Hitchborne's SK5739 : Nottingham Midland Station, Nottingham, which also shows how snazzily the bridge has been refurbished.
