Leafy lane with hazel trees near to Vernham Street
Hazel trees were traditionally grown as coppice to provide fencing material. The art of weaving the long branches into panelled fences has been revived in recent years. Coppice woods are often a thin strip of woodland between fields. On field boundaries the tradition of laying hedgerows is also being practised once again.
