Road through the former Stanton Ironworks
Stanton Ironworks has a long history becoming Stanton & Staveley and then part of British Steel before being acquired by the French company St Gobain. They were major employers for people from all the surrounding towns and villages and their site covered a large area. Since the demise of "Stanton" in the latter half of the last century, many of the old buildings have been demolished and some have been replaced by new ones. St Gobain still has a presence on the site but many of the remaining buildings are now occupied by smaller private companies engaged in light engineering and the like. One constant throughout all this change has been the Seven Oaks pub (on the right of the picture) but even this has undergone major refurbishment and is now also a restaurant no less!
