Rye Street landway, looking north towards the river
Rye Street landway, looking north towards the river
The landway - a restricted byway - runs north from near Rye Street Farm and comes to an abrupt end about 1000 yards on, more or less in the middle of nowhere. In this shot, the only buildings visible - on the skyline near the left margin - are those at Martin's Wick, at about TQ 745 782. In clearer conditions you would also see industrial installations on the Essex shore of the Thames, at a distance of about three and a half miles.

It is possible to drive to the end of the landway, but I wouldn't advise it - there is no room at the end to turn, with ditches on either side, and I have seen vehicles reverse all the way out.
