Redundant stile
The fence has been removed to allow vehicle access, making the stile unneeded. The wooden post standing alone in the middle is a Permanent Orienteering Course (POC) marker.

The woodland area of Ladderedge Country Park was originally part of Longsdon Wood and possibly dates from before the 17th century and is therefore classified as ancient semi-natural woodland. It is still possible to see an ancient ditch and embankment on the edges of the wood, its purpose was to keep livestock from entering and damaging the woodland. Because of the heavy summer canopy produced by the deciduous trees most of the flowers are limited to springtime flowering, mainly Bluebells, Wood Sorrel and Wood Anemone. Management of the woodland is very low key and, apart from the felling of dangerous trees, it is mainly left to its own devices. Any dead or felled branches are left on the woodland floor to provide shelter and food for invertebrates, small mammals and fungi.
